Avinash "Avi" P. Tantri, MD

Raised in Northeast Ohio, Dr. Tantri received his Bachelor's Degree from Oberlin College. He attended Ohio State University Medical School, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society, and graduated with honors. He then pursued a research fellowship in ocular genetics at the Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia. He completed his residency at the University of Iowa, one of the top residency programs in Ophthalmology in the United States. Following residency Dr. Tantri moved to Lakeville in 2007 to join Dr. Kirber in practice.

Dr. Tantri has a wide scope of practice including cataracts, glaucoma, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, autoimmune disorders, ocular allergies and dry eye syndrome. He performs in-office laser treatments and offers cataract surgery at Sharon Hospital. He offers advanced technology astigmatism-correcting and multifocal lens implants.

Dr. Tantri has published numerous research papers in ophthalmology, immunology and genetics. He has presented research papers at the American Academy of Ophthalmology meeting and at the meeting of the American Society of Retina Specialists. He has also conducted research at the National Cancer Institute, Boston University School of Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine as well as Ohio State University.

Dr. Tantri is Board Certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the Connecticut State Medical Society and the Litchfield County Medical Society.

Dr. Tantri and his wife Rachel enjoy the rural New England lifestyle in the Northwest Corner. They are thrilled to be raising their two young sons in this beautiful area. Dr. Tantri has many additional interests including gardening, cooking, astronomy and hiking.
